Darshan Sorathiya: Rising Above Life’s Challenges

Darshan Sorathiya (18) has seen so many adversaries in life, but they have not deterred him from accomplishing his dream of cracking JEE Advanced. Son of a diamond factory worker, Rasik Sorathiya,

Darshan has secured All India Rank (CRL) 5095 and AIR 693 in EwS category with a score of 165 in the JEE Advanced 2024 whose results were declared on 9th June.

Darshan has scored 84% marks in class 12 in Gujrati Board this year. Hailing from humble family background in Rajkot district of Gujarat, Darshan lives in a small house spread in just 550 square feet.

The tale of Darshan’s life challenges is long. He was a small child when her mother Jyoti Ben sustained severe burn injuries in a mishap. Due to the injuries to his mother, he and his father had to look after household chores and take care of injured mother.

His father also works for almost 12 hours a day from morning to night to run the family by earning around Rs 15000 to Rs 20000 per month in a diamond factory in Rajkot.

“In my growing years, father faced challenges in meeting my educational expenses but he did not let them hinder his education”, he said.

Darshan told that his father admitted me in a private school in Rajkot. Darshan is the only child of his parents

When Darshan started excelling in his studies, he was selected for Former Chief Minister, Gujarat, Vijay Rupani’s Rupani Trust around 4 years ago in which his complete education expenses were born by the Trust and ALLEN Career Institute whereby he studied in Rajkot. Darshan daily would cover 14 km distance from his home to ALLEN coaching institute on his bicycle.

Once again, Darshan came across a stiff challenge. Since Darshan was educated in Gujarati medium in school so he faced difficulty while preparing for JEE Advanced whose course was either in Hindi or English. However, Darshan defied all odds and cracked JEE Advanced.

“I somehow managed the difficulty and later practiced with JEE Advanced modules, provided by ALLEN, which benefitted me in taking the JEE Advanced in English medium”, he said.

About his success mantra, Darshan said that determination to crack JEE Advanced and the zeal to avail every opportunity to prepare for JEE Advanced at any cost ensured his success in JEE Advanced 2024.

Darshan said that he has the dream to study in the two Top 2 IITs of the country including IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi.
