1.91 Lac Aspirants Compete for 17385 IIT Seats

As per the data of the registered candidates for JEE Advanced 2024, this year there will be competition among about 11 students for each seat in IIT. This year, a maximum of 1 lakh 91 thousand students have applied, who will appear for 17385 seats in IIT.

These 17385 seats include 20 percent seats in the Female-Supernumerary Quota, which is allocated in addition to the 20 percent female pool quota for girls. Generally, the ratio of male and female students in the JEE-Advanced exam is 65 to 35 percent. In such a situation, the chances of girls getting a seat in IIT increases compared to boys.

According to the JEE-Advanced data released for the last several years, out of 2.50 lakh students qualified on the basis of JEE-Main, there are about 60 thousand students who drop the advanced examination i.e. do not even register for the examination. The main reason for this is the board eligibility of 75 percent in 12th board and students not being fully prepared for the advanced examination, whereas for the first time,

NTA, while filtering in JEE-Main results, did not make such students ineligible for the advanced examination. Those aspirants whose 12th examination has been passed before the year 2023, i.e. those whose two attempts of advanced examination have been completed, have not been made eligible.

Whereas the students whose JEE-Main score card has written ineligible are actually eligible for the advanced examination, yet 60 thousand students have not applied.

Aspirants should take JEE Advanced 2024 for Self-assessment

This year there has been maximum registration in both JEE-Main & Advanced examinations. More than 14 lakh 15 thousand students appeared for JEE-Main, followed by 1.91 lakh who registered for Advanced. The cutoff for appearing in the JEE Advanced exam was also better than previous years.

Despite this, like previous years, 60 thousand students dropped JEE-Advanced. From this, it can be assumed that these students focus only on JEE-Main or are not fully prepared for the JEE Advanced examination. Students should do self-assessment by appearing in Advanced.
