Master Your Entrance Strategy: Step-by-Step Registration, Documentation, and Verification Guidelines for JEE Main 2027
The National Testing Agency (NTA) officially commenced the online registration process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2027 late on the night of October 24.
A formal public notification confirmed that Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) will be conducted across two distinct sessions in January and April. While over 100,000 aspirants completed their applications within the first few days of the portal opening, overall registration volume is projected to reach approximately 1.7 million unique candidates for the 2027 exam cycle.
This projected surge reflects a steady year-over-year increase in engineering aspirants nationwide. To ensure a smooth, error-free application process, students and parents are advised to avoid rushing, as the application window remains open through November 2, giving applicants ample time to compile required documentation, verify personal records, and submit their forms accurately.

A persistent misconception among engineering candidates and parents is that submitting the JEE Main application early guarantees allocation to a first-choice examination city.
In official reality, the NTA does not allocate test centers on a “first-come, first-served” basis. All examination cities and specific session dates are generated randomly using automated allocation algorithms after the registration deadline closes on November 2.
Choosing exam center preferences early or late within the official window has zero impact on whether a candidate receives their top-priority city. For the 2027 cycle, the official exam window spans from January 20 to January 24 (with January 28 reserved as a buffer date), conducting tests across 13 regional languages alongside English and Hindi with a standard 75-question examination structure split into multiple-choice and numerical sections.
Before beginning the online application, applicants must ensure they have all required records and digital assets ready to prevent session timeouts or technical errors.
The NTA strongly advises completing the registration on a desktop computer or laptop using an updated web browser, explicitly warning candidates not to use mobile phones or tablets due to small screen resolutions and touch keyboards that frequently cause character dropping or failed document uploads.
Candidates must gather a valid government identity document, scanned original marksheets, a high-resolution colored photograph with a plain background where the face occupies at least 80% of the frame with both ears clearly visible, and relevant reservation category certificates.
For OBC-NCL and EWS applicants, certificates must be issued on or after April 1, 2027, for final counseling; however, candidates who do not yet have an updated certificate during form filling can safely proceed by uploading an official application acknowledgment receipt.
For the JEE Main 2027 application cycle, the NTA has integrated registration with the Government of India’s DigiLocker platform via the Meri Pehchaan Single Sign-On (SSO) ecosystem.
Linking a DigiLocker account allows the application system to automatically pull verified identity details—including candidate name, date of birth, gender, and photograph—directly from official government database records.
Candidates who updated their photograph on their physical identity card within the past 12 months must log in to DigiLocker and refresh their linked documents before starting the NTA application. Failing to refresh DigiLocker prior to starting the form may cause the application portal to pull outdated photograph records during automated identity verification.
The application process begins on the official NTA JEE portal, where new candidates must review the official Information Bulletin before clicking “New Candidate Register” to proceed.
After accepting the nationality declaration for Indian Nationals, applicants authenticate their identity using DigiLocker, authorize consent for data verification, and complete the detailed sections covering personal information, academic qualifications, and four preferred examination cities in order of convenience.
During account creation, candidates must generate a strong application password consisting of 8 to 13 characters with a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
It is critical that candidates keep this password strictly private and avoid letting cyber cafe operators generate generic passwords, as these exact credentials are required later for JEE Advanced registration and official seat allocation.
The final stage of the registration requires uploading high-resolution scanned copies of the candidate’s photograph, signature, and category or disability certificates strictly according to specified file format and size limits.
Applicants should carefully review all pre-filled details on the summary confirmation screen before proceeding to the integrated payment gateway to complete the non-refundable registration fee.
The fee structure stands at ₹1,000 for General Male candidates, ₹800 for General Female candidates, ₹900 for OBC-NCL/EWS Male candidates, ₹800 for OBC-NCL/EWS Female candidates, and ₹500 for SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender candidates.
Once the transaction successfully completes, candidates must download, save, and print multiple physical copies of the generated Confirmation Page, as this document serves as indispensable proof of registration throughout the entrance exam and subsequent admission counseling.
