JEE (Main) ranks likely to be announced today, 29th June 2015

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) did not announce the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) ranks until late on Sunday evening. The first joint seat allocation process for admissions to IITs, NITs and IIITs is to begin on Monday, as per the revised schedule. Officials at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, which is organizing the process, claimed that even if the ranks are announced on Monday, the joint seat allocation process can begin as per the revised schedule.

Over 11 lakh students were to be part of the process for nearly 34,000 seats in 85 technical institutes. “We are already working on publishing the ranks and will do it at the earliest. We are working to stay on schedule,” said a senior CBSE official. The admission process had to be deferred from June 25 to June 29 as the ranks were not available. The CBSE had not been able to announce the ranks on time as many state boards had not sent the Class XII marks to the CBSE. JEE (Main) ranks are calculated by giving 60% weightage to JEE (Main) scores and 40% to class XII scores.

The CBSE had also released a notification in leading newspapers appealing to higher secondary education boards in the country to announce their class XII results, failing which the All India JEE (Main) ranks of candidates from the affected boards would not be released and CBSE would not be responsible for the same.

Despite the uncertainty, officials at IIT Bombay said that the admissions are not likely to be affected. “Once the CBSE releases the ranks, they have to be sent to National Informatics Centre (NIC), which will check and upload the data. We can then activate the portal and open it for registrations immediately, as we are prepared,” an IIT official said.
