JoSAA 2025 Last Date for 1st Round Online Reporting Extended till June 22

Lower Branch of Top IITs Preferred in Counseling

Joint counseling process of 127 institutes including IIT-NIT is going on. The last date for online reporting of seat allocation of the first round by JoSAA has been extended till 5 pm on June 22. Earlier it was till June 18.

The revised schedule of the complete counseling process will be released soon by JoSAA.

Allen Career Institute’s education expert said that according to the data of seats allotted in the first round so far, the inclination of students is seen more towards the lower branch of the top seven IITs.

Students are also giving preference to lower branches of top IITs of Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, Hyderabad, BHU such as Chemical, Energy Engineering, Engineering Physics, Production & Industrial, Material Science, Metallurgy, Aerospace, Environmental, Biotechnology, Bio Engineering, Manufacturing, Textile, Ocean Engineering, Mining, Earth Science, Geophysics, Geological Science, Agriculture & Food Engineering over core branches of other IITs.

These other IITs include IITs established in 2012 such as IIT Dhanbad, Jodhpur, Rupnagar, Mandi, Indore, and Gandhinagar. Students give preference only to Computer Science, AI, Maths & Computing, Data Science branches in these IITs, apart from this, they give preference to other branches of these IITs only after the lower branches of top IITs.

After this, the core branches of IITs opened in the year 2017-18 like IIT Jammu, Bhilai, Goa, Dharwad, Tirupati, Palakkad IIT are also chosen in the end.

Why is the Trend of Studying in Top IITs Increasing?

According to expert, in addition to the core branches of top-7 IITs, students up to the initial 6 thousand AIR give more preference to lower branches of these Top IITs than the core branches of other IITs since in the top 7 IITs one gets the best academic environment, support of top rankers, better brand value and tough competition, due to which students are able to ensure their overall developments.

In IITs, students also get the opportunity to take other branches as minors in addition to their own branch, due to which students usually strengthen their profile by taking computer science subjects in minor and learning coding, programming.

These IITs are also in the priority of big placement companies. Due to this, the students here get placements in good companies. In these IITs, companies come in greater numbers for job placement as compared to other IITs, which provides placement opportunities to students of every branch.
