Union Budget 2025 – Key Announcements for IIT & Medical Students

Over 10000 Seats to be Added in Medical Colleges next year and 6500 Seats to be Added in 7 IITs Set Up After 2014

The announcement made in the Union Budget for 2025-26 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is good news for lakhs of students preparing for IIT and medical entrance exams.

The Union government has allocated Rs 1.29 lakh Crores for the education sector. Career counseling expert of ALLEN Career Institute said that as per the budget announcement, 6500 seats will be increased in IITs established after 2014.

Infrastructure will be developed for as many students in these institutes. It is known that 7 IITs were started in the country in 2014, which include Hyderabad, Indore, Gandhinagar, Jodhpur, Mandi, Bhubaneswar and Patna.

In these IITs, accommodation and all other facilities will be expanded in proportion to the increasing number of students. At present, there are a total of 17 thousand 385 seats in 23 IITs. In such a situation, with the increase in the number of seats, the inclination of lakhs of students towards JEE-Main and Advanced examinations will increase.

Also, with the increase in the number of IITians in the country, the country will get skilled youth, which will take the country forward in the field of upcoming technology.

Along with this, it has also been said to promote artificial intelligence and new technology. According to the budget speech, in the last 10 years, 1 lakh 35 thousand IITians have been given to the country by IITs. In the last 10 years, 65 thousand IITians have been prepared. It has also been said to give a loan of up to 20 crores to promote the startups running in the country.

It is worth mentioning that this year, the highest number of 13 lakh 78 thousand students have applied in the history of the country’s biggest engineering entrance exam JEE-Main and now more than 2 lakh new students will apply for the April exam.

In such a situation, this year more than 15 lakh students will appear in JEE-Main exam, which shows the increasing trend of students towards engineering.

75000 Seats will be Increased in Medical Colleges in Next 5 Years

Along with this, expansion in the field of medical education has also been announced. According to the budget announcement, a target has been set to increase 75 thousand seats in the country’s medical colleges and hospitals in the next 5 years.

Under this, 10 thousand additional seats will be increased next year. Currently, there are more than 1 lakh 17 thousand MBBS seats in the country’s medical colleges and about 25 lakh students appear in the medical entrance examination.
