All These 3 Students Were Atudents of ALLEN Career Institute
The Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) report for JEE Advanced 2026 has revealed an interesting trend in the history of one of India’s toughest engineering entrance examinations.
An analysis of the report shows that while no candidate has ever secured a perfect overall score, only three students so far have managed to score full marks in an individual subject.
JEE Advanced 2026 topper Shubham Kumar emerged as the latest candidate to achieve a perfect score in a single subject. He secured 120 out of 120 marks in Chemistry.
However, his scores in the other two subjects were lower, with 98 marks in Physics and 112 in Mathematics. Shubham scored 330 out of 360 marks overall, securing 91.67 per cent.
The 2026 JEE Advanced paper carried a maximum of 360 marks, with each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics carrying 120 marks. Despite the exceptional performance of the topper, no student could secure full marks in all three subjects or achieve the overall maximum score.
The JIC report indicates that only three candidates in the history of JEE Advanced have achieved a perfect score in an individual subject.
Chemistry accounts for two such performances, while Physics has witnessed one perfect score. Mathematics, despite being one of the core subjects of the examination, has never seen a candidate score the full 120 marks.
Shubham Kumar became the latest addition to this select group in 2026 after scoring 120 in Chemistry. Before him, Ved Lahoti achieved the same feat in Chemistry in 2024, while Mridul Agarwal scored a perfect 120 in Physics in 2021.
JEE Advanced 2024 topper Ved Lahoti continues to hold the record for the highest overall score in the examination. He secured 355 out of 360 marks, equivalent to 98.61 per cent. Lahoti was just five marks short of a perfect score and also secured 120 out of 120 in Chemistry.
His subject-wise scores included 117 in Mathematics and 118 in Physics. Despite strong performances by toppers in subsequent years, no candidate in 2025 or 2026 has matched Lahoti’s overall score of 355.
In 2021, Mridul Agarwal became the first of the three toppers in this list to record a perfect score in an individual subject. He scored 120 out of 120 in Physics and secured 348 marks out of 360 overall, with a score of 96.67 per cent.
Agarwal scored 116 marks in Mathematics and 112 in Chemistry. His overall performance placed him among the highest-scoring candidates in JEE Advanced history.
All three students who have achieved full marks in a single subject have studied in Rajasthan. Ved Lahoti and Shubham Kumar are associated with Kota, while Mridul Agarwal studied in Jaipur. Both Kota and Jaipur fall under the IIT Delhi zone.
Their achievements underline Rajasthan’s prominent role in JEE Advanced preparation and the state’s long-standing reputation as a major hub for engineering entrance exam aspirants.
JEE Advanced is widely regarded as one of the most challenging engineering entrance examinations because of its demanding questions and emphasis on conceptual understanding.
The examination tests students on subject knowledge, logical reasoning, problem-solving ability, calculation skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
The examination pattern can also vary from year to year, making it difficult for students to rely solely on predictable question formats. As a result, even the country’s top-performing candidates often fall short of achieving perfect scores.
The record of perfect scores is particularly notable because several recent JEE Advanced toppers have also failed to secure 120 marks in any individual subject.
The list includes 2025 topper Rajit Gupta, 2023 topper Vavilala Chidvilas Reddy, 2022 topper R K Shishir, 2020 topper Chirag Falor, 2019 topper Kartikey Gupta, 2018 topper Pranav Goel, 2017 topper Sarvesh Mehtani and 2016 topper Aman Bansal.
The trend highlights the extraordinary level of difficulty of JEE Advanced. Even candidates who finish at the top of the national merit list may lose marks across subjects, making a perfect individual-subject score a rare achievement.
In 2026, Shubham Kumar’s 120 marks in Chemistry made him only the third student in the examination’s history to score full marks in a single subject. His performance also reinforced the continuing dominance of exceptional students from Rajasthan’s major coaching and education hubs.
With no candidate having yet achieved a perfect overall score in JEE Advanced, Ved Lahoti’s 355 out of 360 in 2024 remains the benchmark to beat. The JIC report thus offers a clear indication of just how difficult it is to attain perfection in one of India’s most competitive engineering entrance examinations.
