NTA Cancels NEET UG 2026 Exam

Medical Entrance Exam to Be Re-Conducted and CBI will investigate the matter

A major update has emerged for millions of students and parents regarding NEET UG 2026, the country’s largest medical entrance exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to cancel the NEET UG 2026 exam which was held on May 3, 2026.

This decision was taken after the approval of the Central Government. The exam will now be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced soon.

This decision was taken to maintain the transparency, fairness, and credibility of the examination process. The NTA clarified that it received input from central agencies and investigative agencies that indicated that continuing with the current examination process would not be appropriate.

Why was the NEET UG 2026 exam cancelled?

NEET UG 2026 examination has been cancelled amidst reports of paper leak. In its official statement, the NTA stated that on May 8, 2026, the agency referred certain matters related to the exam to central agencies for independent investigation and necessary action. Subsequently, the investigation reports and inputs received from various agencies were evaluated.

These reports revealed facts that raised questions about the fairness of the exam. Consequently, the government and the NTA decided to reschedule the exam to maintain the confidence of students across the country.

The NTA states that if the exam had not been cancelled, it could have caused long-term damage to the credibility of the national examination system.

When will the NEET UG 2026 exam be rescheduled?

At present, the NTA has not announced a new exam date. The agency stated that the rescheduled exam date, admit card issuance schedule, and other important information will be released soon on the official website and through official channels.

Students are advised to rely only on official information and avoid unverified news circulating on social media.

CBI to investigate the entire matter

The Central Government has decided to hand over the comprehensive investigation of the NEET UG 2026 case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI will now conduct a detailed investigation into the alleged irregularities and allegations in the exam.

The NTA has stated that it will provide full cooperation to the investigating agency and will provide all records, documents, and technical support required for the investigation.

This move is being considered a major step by the government towards bringing transparency to the examination system and taking strict action against the culprits.

Students will not have to reapply

If the NEET UG 2026 is rescheduled, students will not need to fill out a new application form. The NTA has clarified that the registration, candidate information, and examination centres selected during the May 2026 session will automatically be applicable to the next examination cycle.

This means that students who previously applied will not have to go through the registration process again.

Examination fees will also be refunded

The NTA has also announced that the examination fees deposited by students will be refunded. Additionally, no additional fees will be charged for the re-examination.

This decision was taken to reduce the financial burden on students and their families. The agency stated that the re-examination will be conducted through NTA’s internal resources.

Increased Anxiety for Millions of Students

Millions of students across the country appear for the NEET exam every year. This exam is mandatory for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses in medical colleges.

Consequently, the cancellation of the exam has increased anxiety and stress among students. Many students had taken the exam after months of hard work and mental stress. Now, preparing for the exam again may be challenging for them.

However, experts believe that this step was necessary to maintain a fair examination system. If any irregularities are discovered, impartial investigation and necessary action are crucial for the future of students.
