The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important advisory regarding the upcoming NEET (UG) 2026 examination, clarifying the rules and exceptions related to biometric verification.
If you are a candidate appearing for NEET 2026, this information is crucial for you to ensure that you avoid any potential difficulties on the day of the examination.

NEET (UG) 2026 Exam Date and Time
NEET (UG) 2026 is scheduled to be conducted on May 03, 2026. The examination will be held from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM. However, for candidates belonging to the PwD/PwBD category, the examination duration may be extended up to 06:00 PM.

Biometric Verification Mandatory at the Exam Centre
According to NTA guidelines, every candidate must undergo a frisking procedure before being granted entry into the examination centre.
Following this, biometric verification will be conducted, which is a mandatory step required to appear for the examination. This measure is implemented to ensure the transparency and security of the examination process.

Circumstances under which Biometric Exceptions Apply
In certain specific situations, it may not be possible to complete the biometric verification process. In such instances, the NTA has clarified that candidates will still be permitted to appear for the examination. These circumstances include:
- Technical malfunction (Hardware Failure) in the biometric device
- Poor quality of the candidate’s fingerprints or other biometric data
- Connectivity issues with the UIDAI server
- Inability to provide biometric data due to a physical condition
In all such situations, the candidate will not be denied entry into the examination hall.

Submission of a Written Undertaking is Mandatory
If a candidate’s biometric verification cannot be successfully completed, they will be required to submit a written undertaking.
The format for this undertaking will be made available exclusively at the examination centre. Candidates must fill it out with utmost care.

No Biometric Process during the Examination
The NTA has also clarified that candidates will not be interrupted in any manner during the examination. No biometric procedures of any kind will be conducted between 02:00 PM and 05:00 PM (or until 06:00 PM for PwD candidates).
This ensures that students can take their examination without any interruptions.
