New UG Programmes, Admission Process, Fees and Eligibility Explained
India’s premier management institutes are no longer limited to MBA aspirants. Several Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have expanded their academic offerings by introducing undergraduate (UG) programmes in emerging fields such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics and Digital Business.
The biggest highlight is that many of these programmes accept admission through JEE Main scores, giving engineering aspirants another prestigious career pathway beyond IITs.
For years, students appeared for JEE Main primarily to secure admission into IITs, NITs and other engineering colleges.
However, the landscape is changing rapidly. Top IIMs have started launching specialised bachelor’s programmes that combine technology with management, allowing students to build careers in high-demand industries.
These programmes are generally offered after Class 12 and span three or four years, with an option to exit after completing the undergraduate degree or continue for an integrated postgraduate qualification at selected institutes.
Several IIMs have already opened admissions for specialised UG courses. Here’s a quick overview:
| IIM | Programme | Duration | Approximate Fee |
| IIM Mumbai | BS in Digital Business and Data Science | 4 Years | ₹20–24 lakh |
| IIM Lucknow | BS in Data Science and Business Analytics | 4 Years | ₹22–25 lakh |
| IIM Ranchi | BS in Data Science and AI | 4 Years | ₹14–16 lakh |
| IIM Kozhikode | BBA in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship | 3 Years | ₹15–18 lakh |
| IIM Gaya | Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) | 3-4 Years | ₹16–18 lakh |
IIM Mumbai offers a four-year Bachelor of Science programme in Digital Business and Data Science.
Students must have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and secured at least 60% marks. Admission is based on JEE Main performance followed by further evaluation as prescribed by the institute.
The curriculum blends data analytics, business strategy and digital technologies, preparing students for careers in consulting, analytics and technology management.
The BS in Data Science and Business Analytics at IIM Lucknow is designed for students interested in technology-driven business solutions.
Eligibility requires Class 12 with PCM and a minimum qualifying percentage as notified by the institute.
Graduates can explore careers in analytics, finance, consulting, AI-enabled business solutions and data-driven decision-making.
IIM Ranchi has introduced a four-year undergraduate programme focused on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
Candidates with PCM in Class 12 can apply using their JEE Main scores. The programme emphasises machine learning, programming, statistics and business applications of AI.
Students from Science, Commerce and Arts streams can apply for IIM Kozhikode’s BBA in Digital Business and Entrepreneurship, subject to the institute’s eligibility norms.
Admissions consider JEE Main scores along with other criteria announced by the institute. The programme focuses on entrepreneurship, digital transformation and business innovation, making it suitable for students aspiring to become startup founders or business leaders.
IIM Bodh Gaya offers a Bachelor of Management Studies programme with a duration of three to four years.
Students completing the programme gain exposure to management fundamentals, economics, technology, communication and leadership.
Apart from these new bachelor’s degrees, several IIMs continue to offer their flagship Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) after Class 12.
JEE Main scores are also accepted by several reputed institutions outside the IIT ecosystem for specialised undergraduate programmes.
Some notable options include:
The introduction of undergraduate programmes at IIMs reflects the growing demand for professionals skilled in technology, business and data-driven decision-making. Students now have multiple career options after Class 12 instead of choosing only between engineering and traditional management courses.
With fields like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Digital Business and Business Analytics witnessing rapid industry growth, these programmes offer strong academic foundations along with excellent career prospects.
The expansion of undergraduate education at IIMs has created a valuable opportunity for students appearing in JEE Main. Instead of viewing the exam solely as an engineering entrance test, candidates can now use their scores to pursue prestigious management and technology-focused degrees at leading IIMs.
Students planning their higher education should carefully review the eligibility criteria, admission process and fee structure of each institute before applying.
