JoSAA 2026 Partial Admission Fee: Key Dates and Process

Candidates who have secured a seat in an NIT, IIIT, or GFTI through JoSAA Counselling 2026 must complete one more important step to secure their admission.

Even if the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) has already been paid, the allotted seat will not be treated as confirmed unless the Partial Admission Fee (PAF) is deposited within the prescribed deadline. Missing this payment can result in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat.

JoSAA Issues Important Notice for Round 5 Candidates

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has completed all five rounds of counselling for the NIT+ system. Students who have received a seat in any of the five rounds must now pay the Partial Admission Fee (PAF) to retain their allotment.

The payment window for the Partial Admission Fee will remain open from July 22 to July 24, 2026. Candidates must complete the payment through their JoSAA candidate login portal within the given timeline.

Why the Partial Admission Fee is Mandatory

Many students believe that paying the Seat Acceptance Fee is enough to secure admission. However, JoSAA has clarified that the Seat Acceptance Fee only confirms participation in the counselling process.

The final confirmation of the allotted seat requires payment of the Partial Admission Fee.Without this payment, the allotted seat will be cancelled automatically, regardless of whether the candidate accepted the seat in earlier rounds.

What Happens If You Do Not Pay the Partial Admission Fee?

Candidates who fail to pay the Partial Admission Fee by July 24, 2026 will lose their allotted seat. Once cancelled, the seat cannot be reclaimed through JoSAA.

The vacant seat will be transferred to the CSAB Counselling seat pool and may be allotted to another eligible candidate during the special counselling rounds.

Therefore, students who are reasonably satisfied with their allotted institute or branch are strongly advised to complete the payment before the deadline.

Courses Covered Under the NIT+ System

The Partial Admission Fee requirement applies to candidates allotted seats in the NIT+ system, including:

• B.Tech programmes
• Integrated M.Tech programmes
• Dual Degree courses
• Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)
• Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
• BS-MS Integrated programmes

Students admitted to any of these programmes through JoSAA Round 5 must complete the payment process.

Partial Admission Fee Structure

JoSAA has prescribed different Partial Admission Fee amounts based on the candidate’s category.

• General, OBC-NCL and EWS: ₹45,000
• SC and ST: ₹20,000

This amount will later be adjusted against the admission fee payable at the allotted institute.

Additional Fee for Category Change Cases

Some candidates experienced a category change during the online document verification process. For example, candidates whose category changed from SC/ST to General or from PwD to Non-PwD had earlier paid a lower Seat Acceptance Fee.

Such candidates are now required to pay an additional ₹15,000. As a result, their total Partial Admission Fee becomes ₹60,000. Candidates should carefully check their payment details in the JoSAA portal before making the transaction.

How to Pay the JoSAA Partial Admission Fee

The Partial Admission Fee can only be paid through the official JoSAA candidate portal. Follow these simple steps:

1. Log in to your JoSAA candidate account.
2. Navigate to the Partial Admission Fee payment section.
3. Verify your category and payment details.
4. Complete the online payment before the deadline.
5. Download and save the payment receipt for future admission formalities.

Do Not Assume You Will Get the Same Seat in CSAB

Students planning to skip the payment in the hope of getting a better branch during CSAB Counselling should proceed with caution. There is no guarantee that the same institute or branch will be available again in CSAB.

If you are satisfied with your current allotment and want to secure admission for this academic year, paying the Partial Admission Fee is the safest option.

Final Reminder for JoSAA 2026 Candidates

The Partial Admission Fee is now a mandatory step for candidates allotted seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs through JoSAA Counselling 2026. The payment window is open from July 22 to July 24, 2026, and failure to complete this process will lead to automatic cancellation of the allotted seat.
