A Unique and Remarkable Story of Sacrifice, Success, and Sibling Bonding
Every year, thousands of India’s brightest students dream of securing a seat in the Computer Science program at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. For many, it represents the pinnacle of academic achievement and a gateway to a successful future.
However, in a heart-warming story that has captured attention across the education community, twin brothers Mahroof and Masroor Khan have demonstrated that family can sometimes matter more than personal ambition. Both brothers emerged among the top performers in JEE Advanced 2026.
While Mahroof secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 32, his twin brother Masroor achieved AIR 169. Despite having a rank that comfortably guarantees admission to Computer Science Engineering at IIT Bombay, Mahroof has chosen a different path – one that allows him to continue studying alongside his brother.
Instead of joining IIT Bombay, he plans to opt for Computer Science at IIT Madras so that both brothers can pursue their undergraduate education together.
Originally from Odisha, the twin brothers moved to Kota three years ago to prepare for India’s toughest engineering entrance examinations. Their dedication and consistency paid off handsomely.

| Examination | Mahroof Khan | Masroor Khan |
| JEE Advanced 2026 Rank | AIR 32 | AIR 169 |
| JEE Main 2026 Rank | AIR 44 | AIR 58 |
| Class 10 Score | 95.2% | 97.6% |
| Class 12 Score | 98.6% | 94.6% |
While their ranks differ, their journey has always been shared. From school days to Kota coaching classrooms, the brothers studied side by side, helping each other overcome academic challenges.
For most JEE toppers, receiving an opportunity to study Computer Science at IIT Bombay would be an unquestionable choice. Yet Mahroof views success differently.
According to him, the bond he shares with his brother is stronger than the allure of a particular campus. Since Masroor’s rank makes IIT Madras a more practical option for Computer Science, Mahroof decided to choose the same institute despite qualifying for IIT Bombay’s highly sought-after CS program.
He believes that continuing their educational journey together will benefit both of them academically and personally. Masroor expressed deep gratitude for his brother’s support, describing the decision as a reflection of the trust and understanding they have built over the years.

The brothers’ parents consider this decision one of the proudest moments of their lives.
Their father, Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Khan, is an MD in Medicine and serves as the in-charge of the dispensary at IIT Bhubaneswar. Their mother, Dr. Zeenat Begum, is an MS in Gynecology and was previously employed as a government doctor at a hospital run by Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited.
To support her sons’ dreams, Dr. Zeenat made a significant sacrifice of her own. She left her government job and relocated to Kota with the twins, ensuring they received the guidance, care, and emotional support required during their preparation years.
The family believes that the brothers’ willingness to support each other is more valuable than any rank or institution.
One of the key reasons behind the twins’ success was their disciplined schedule. They followed nearly identical routines every day, balancing coaching classes, self-study, doubt-solving sessions, recreation, and rest.
The twin brothers followed a highly disciplined and well-structured daily routine throughout their JEE preparation.
They attended coaching classes for around five hours every day and spent an additional hour clearing doubts and discussing difficult concepts. Self-study formed the backbone of their preparation, with both brothers dedicating nearly six hours daily to revising concepts, solving problems, and practicing mock tests.
To maintain physical fitness and refresh their minds, they played badminton together for about an hour each day. Routine activities such as meals, personal care, and other daily tasks consumed approximately three hours.
Despite their rigorous schedule, they ensured adequate rest by sleeping for seven hours every night, helping them stay focused, productive, and mentally fresh throughout their preparation journey.
Unlike many competitive environments where students view each other as rivals, Mahroof and Masroor treated each other as teammates. Whenever one struggled with a topic, the other stepped in to explain concepts and solve doubts. If they encountered particularly difficult questions, they sought help from teachers.
However, most of the time, they were able to resolve challenges through discussion and collaborative learning. Even during difficult phases, such as poor test scores or temporary setbacks, they encouraged each other rather than becoming discouraged.
This healthy competition pushed both students toward excellence without creating unnecessary pressure.

The remarkable thing is that two brothers, born together, cracked the JEE-Main 2026 together. Apart from the JEE Advanced 2026 success, these twin brothers Mahroof and Masroor, scored identical marks in JEE Main 2026 (January session).
They took the exam in the same shift and scored the same 285 out of 300 marks.
Interestingly, despite coming from a family of doctors, neither brother chose medicine as a career path. They discovered their passion for mathematics during Class 9 and became determined to pursue engineering.
Looking ahead, both twins plan to complete their B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Madras. However, engineering is only one step in their long-term vision.
Their ultimate aspiration is to enter the Civil Services. They are also considering pursuing management education at an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) after graduation.
They intend to explore opportunities that align with their interests and strengths while keeping public service as a major priority.
When asked about the secret behind the twins’ achievements, their father was quick to credit his wife. Due to professional commitments, he could visit Kota only occasionally.
Meanwhile, Dr. Zeenat dedicated herself fully to supporting the children throughout their preparation journey. She monitored their health, maintained their routine, encouraged them during challenging times, and ensured they remained mentally strong.
According to her, the academic credit belongs largely to the students and their teachers, while her role was to provide emotional stability and maintain a positive environment at home.
Both parents praised Kota’s educational ecosystem and coaching culture. Dr. Zeenat highlighted the strong academic environment, quality study materials, experienced faculty, and the opportunity for students to interact with highly motivated peers from across the country.
Dr. Mansoor admitted that many of the negative perceptions he had previously heard about Kota turned out to be inaccurate. After witnessing the support system available to students first-hand, he developed immense respect for the city’s educational infrastructure.
According to the family, the combination of dedicated teachers, structured study systems, peer learning opportunities, and parental support helped transform the twins’ IIT dream into reality.
The story of Mahroof and Masroor Khan is about much more than impressive JEE ranks. It is a powerful reminder that success is not measured solely by individual achievements but also by the relationships we nurture along the way.
At a time when students often face intense competition and pressure, these twin brothers have shown that collaboration, mutual respect, and family support can become the foundation of extraordinary success.
By choosing companionship over prestige, Mahroof has made a decision that reflects maturity far beyond his years. Together, the brothers now prepare to begin a new chapter at IIT Madras—continuing a journey that has always been defined by learning, sacrifice, and an unbreakable bond.
