JoSAA Counselling 2026: Second Mock Seat Allotment Released

Choice Filling by June 11th, First Seat Allotment on June 13th

The second mock seat allotment has been released under JoSAA Counselling 2026, which is being conducted for admission to IITs, NITs, Triple ITs, and other government technical institutes.

This mock allotment gives students an opportunity to understand which institute and branch they are likely to receive a seat in, based on their currently filled choices and rank. With the release of the second mock seat allotment, candidates now have the final opportunity to review their choice list and make necessary changes.

Nearly 200,000 students filled over 27 million choices

According to data released by JoSAA, a total of 199,944 students participated in the Counselling process, filling 27 million 52 thousand 999 choices as of the second mock seat allocation.

This data reflects the enthusiasm among engineering aspirants across the country for admission to top institutions.

Each student has selected various colleges and branches based on their rank and interests, based on which the seat allocation process is conducted.

More Time for Students This Year

One of the most significant features of JoSAA Counselling 2026 is the extended time for online reporting.

In previous years, students had a maximum of five days to report after seat allocation, but this time, for student convenience, this period has been extended to 14 days. This will provide students with sufficient time for document verification, fee submission, and other formalities.

Online reporting will be from June 13th to 26th

After the first round of seat allocation, selected candidates will be required to report online between June 13th and June 26th, 2026.

During this period, students will be required to complete the process of depositing the required fees, uploading the required documents, and accepting their seat. Failure to complete the required procedures within the stipulated time may affect their seat.

Choice filling can be completed until 5:00 PM on June 11th

According to career counselling experts at ALLEN Career Institute, the deadline for choice filling for JoSAA Counselling 2026 is June 11th, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

After this deadline, students will not be able to make any changes to their choices. Therefore, all candidates are advised to check and finalize their choice list well in advance, rather than waiting for the last minute.

Counselling for over 66,000 seats in 134 institutions

This year, admissions to 134 premier technical institutions in the country will be granted through JoSAA Counselling. These include IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded technical institutions.

The admission process for over 66,000 seats will be completed in five phases. This is considered one of the largest engineering Counselling processes in the country.

What will happen if choices are not locked?

Many students wonder what will happen if they do not lock their choices.

According to JoSAA rules, if a candidate does not manually lock their choices within the stipulated time limit, their last saved choice list is automatically auto-locked. Therefore, students should ensure that their saved choice list is completely correct and in accordance with their preferences by the last minute.

First Seat Allocation to be announced on June 13

Seat allocation for the first round of JoSAA Counselling 2026 will be released on June 13 at 10:00 AM.

This allocation will be based on students’ JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks, category, and choices filled. After the seat allocation is released, students will have access to their allotted college and branch information on the JoSAA portal.

What should students do after receiving the second mock seat allocation?

After the second mock seat allocation is released, students should carefully analyse their entire choice list.

They should check whether all the options listed above the college and branch they received in the mock allocation are actually given higher priority.

Similarly, it is important to ensure that there are no choices listed below the allotted branch that they actually wanted to prioritize.

Why is it important to review the choice list one last time?

Once the choices are locked, no changes can be made to them. Therefore, it is extremely important for students to carefully check their entire priority list one last time.

Even a small mistake can affect the seat allocation result. Only a choice list filled in the correct order increases the chances of securing a better seat in JoSAA Counselling.

JoSAA Counselling 2026 has now entered its final phase. The second mock seat allocation provides students with an indication of their potential seat allocation and an opportunity to make final changes to their choice lists.

Therefore, all candidates are advised to thoroughly review their choice lists before 5 pm on June 11th, lock them, and be prepared for the first seat allocation to be released on June 13th.
