AIIMS Delhi Tops the Preference
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the provisional seat allotment results for the first round of counseling for the All India Quota (NEET) under NEET UG 2026.
This counseling process allocates seats for admission to prestigious institutions across the country, including AIIMS, JIPMER, medical colleges affiliated to central universities, ESIC medical colleges, other All India Medical and Dental Colleges, and select central nursing institutes.
A career counseling expert at ALLEN Career Institute stated that AIIMS New Delhi, the country’s leading medical institution, remained the top choice for candidates this year as well.
At AIIMS Delhi, the final selection rank for the general category was only 52, while the closing rank for the EWS category was 292, for the OBC category 192, for the SC category 793, and for the ST category 987.

At AIIMS Jodhpur, the closing rank for the general category was 344, for the EWS 879, for the OBC 714, for the SC 3941, and for the ST 4457. This clearly indicates that after AIIMS Delhi, candidates gave AIIMS Jodhpur the highest priority.

This year, candidates who are allocated seats will have two options. First, candidates who are satisfied with their allotted college will select the “Freeze” option on the MCC portal and upload the documents required by the allotted college to the portal. Candidates will then need to download their allotment letter from the MCC’s official website.
They will then be required to report in person to the respective college with the original documents and admission fee within the stipulated time period. This time period will be between August 22nd and August 31st, as determined by MCC.
Secondly, candidates who are not satisfied with their allotted college and wish to pursue a better option in the second round of counseling can choose the “Float” option on the MCC portal and upload the documents required by their allotted college to the portal.
This eliminates the need for in-person reporting to their allotted college, making them automatically eligible to participate in the second round.
According to the MCC counseling brochure, it’s worth noting that all candidates in the above categories must upload scanned copies of their desired documents; some documents can also be uploaded directly from DigiLocker.
They also noted that, under the rules outlined in the MCC brochure, candidates who find their allotted college unsatisfactory can also choose the free exit option. Such candidates will still be eligible to participate in the second round of counseling.
According to Mishra, the discrepancies in the counseling deadlines and the delay in the release of results are due to the very small gap between the reporting deadlines. Due to this, many candidates may face travel-related problems.
Railway reservations are limited, so candidates traveling from distant locations may have to resort to air travel, which will prove to be significantly more expensive at this time.
