Yash Sharma from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, is one such example. Once asked to leave school after failing Class 9, Yash rebuilt his confidence, resumed his education and eventually cleared Re-NEET UG 2026 with 564 marks and an All India Rank of 27,106.

A Class 9 Failure That Changed the Course of His Life

Yash Sharma was studying in a CBSE-affiliated school in Meerut in 2019 when he failed his Class 9 examinations. Following the result, the school administration informed his parents that he would have to leave the school, stating that his performance could affect the institution’s overall academic record.

Although his family applied for re-evaluation and his marks increased just enough to help him pass with 33%, he still had to discontinue his education at the school. This unexpected setback marked one of the most difficult phases of his academic journey.

From an English-Medium School to a Hindi-Medium Government School

After leaving the CBSE school, Yash enrolled in a government school in his native village, Rasna, located near Sardhana in Meerut district.

Here, he continued his studies in the Hindi medium and completed Classes 10, 11 and 12. During the pandemic, he scored 73% in Class 10, while he secured 63% in Class 12 in 2022. Despite adapting to an entirely different academic environment, Yash remained determined to continue his education.

Family Encouraged Him to Start a Business

After completing Class 12, Yash’s family believed that pursuing a livelihood would be a more practical option than continuing his studies. They helped him set up a cosmetics shop in his village.

He regularly travelled to Delhi to purchase products and sold them through his store. Although he managed the business responsibly, deep inside he still wanted to continue his education and achieve something bigger.

**The Film 12th Fail Rekindled His Dream**

The turning point in Yash’s life came when he watched the movie 12th Fail, based on the life of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. The film deeply inspired him and changed the way he viewed failure. It convinced him that academic setbacks do not define a person’s future.

Motivated by the story, Yash decided to resume his studies and prepare for one of India’s toughest entrance examinations – NEET.

According to Yash, the film gave him the confidence to believe that if someone who struggled academically could become an IPS officer, he too could pursue his dream of becoming a doctor despite failing in Class 9.

A Message That Impressed ALLEN’s Director

Before beginning his NEET preparation, Yash sent a heartfelt message to Dr. Brajesh Maheshwari, Director of ALLEN Career Institute. His message read, “If a Class 12 fail student can become an IPS officer, then a Class 9 fail student can also become a doctor.”

The message reflected his unwavering determination and left a strong impression. Dr. Maheshwari later spoke to Yash through a video call and appreciated his courage to stand up again after facing academic failure.

According to him, Yash’s story is proof that persistence and hard work matter far more than early setbacks.

His Elder Brother Became His Biggest Support

Yash credits his elder brother for playing a crucial role in helping him restart his academic journey. His brother, a B.Tech graduate working in Meerut, encouraged him to pursue higher education instead of continuing with the family business.

After discussing the matter, the entire family decided to support Yash’s dream and sent him to Kota in 2024 for NEET preparation.

His father, Sanjay Sharma, works as a sweet maker, while his mother, Baby Sharma, and sister-in-law, Preeti Sharma, are homemakers. Despite limited resources, the family stood united in supporting his aspirations.

Beginning NEET Preparation in Kota

Yash arrived in Kota in 2024 to begin his NEET preparation. Like every medical aspirant, he dedicated himself to classroom learning, regular practice and revision.

His first NEET attempt came in 2025, where he secured 475 marks. Although it was a respectable score, it was insufficient for securing a government MBBS seat under the General category.

Instead of becoming discouraged, Yash and his family decided to give him another opportunity to improve his performance.

Re-NEET 2026 Brought the Success He Had Dreamed Of

Yash appeared for Re-NEET UG 2026 with renewed confidence and better preparation. This time, he scored 564 marks and secured AIR 27,106, a significant improvement over his previous attempt. With this performance, he expects to secure admission to a government MBBS college in Uttar Pradesh.

Yash believes his original NEET examination performance would have fetched him more than 600 marks, but he felt that the Re-NEET paper was comparatively longer, affecting his final score. Nevertheless, his improved performance was enough to turn his dream into reality.

Failure Is Never the End of the Journey

Yash Sharma’s story sends a powerful message to students who often lose confidence after academic setbacks. Failing in Class 9 did not stop him from dreaming big. Instead of accepting defeat, he rebuilt his life step by step, shifted from business back to academics and ultimately cracked one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations.
