Check Registration, Choice Filling, Seat Allotment and Reporting Dates
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced the NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 2 schedule, giving candidates another opportunity to secure or upgrade a medical or dental seat through the counselling process.
The second round will cover admissions under the All India Quota (AIQ), Deemed Universities and Central Universities, while state counselling authorities will conduct their respective Round 2 processes separately.
According to the announced schedule, the MCC NEET UG Round 2 registration and fee payment process will start on September 3, 2026. Choice filling will also open on the same day.
Candidates participating in the MCC counselling process should carefully follow the deadlines because the choice-filling and choice-locking windows will close before the seat allotment process begins.
The NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 2 seat allotment result is scheduled to be released on September 11, 2026. Candidates who receive seats will subsequently have to complete reporting and joining formalities between September 12 and September 18.

Candidates seeking admission through AIQ, Deemed Universities and Central Universities will be able to register for Round 2 from September 3. The registration and payment window will remain open until September 8.
Candidates should complete the fee payment within the prescribed deadline. The payment facility will remain available until 6 PM on September 8, 2026. Waiting until the last moment may create unnecessary problems, particularly if there are payment or technical issues.
Those who have already participated in Round 1 should also check their counselling status and eligibility before proceeding with Round 2.
The choice-filling window will open on September 3 and remain active until 10 AM on September 9. During this period, candidates can arrange their preferred colleges and courses according to their expected priorities.
Choice filling is one of the most important stages of NEET UG counselling because the seat allotment depends significantly on the preferences submitted by candidates, along with their NEET rank, category, seat availability and other applicable counselling rules.
Candidates should therefore prepare their preference list carefully instead of filling choices randomly. They should consider factors such as college preference, course preference, previous-year admission trends, available seats and their likelihood of receiving a particular choice.
The choice-locking facility will open at 4 PM on September 8. Candidates can lock their final choices until 10 AM on September 9.
Once the choices are locked, candidates should not assume that they can make further changes. It is advisable to review the entire preference list carefully before locking it and ensure that all desired colleges and courses have been included in the appropriate order.
After registration, choice filling and choice locking are completed, MCC will process the seat allotment on September 9 and 10.
The NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 2 result will be announced on September 11. Candidates will be able to check their allotment status through the MCC counselling portal using their login credentials.
Candidates who receive a seat should carefully read the instructions provided with the allotment result and complete the subsequent admission formalities within the specified timeline.
Candidates allotted seats in Round 2 will have to complete the reporting or joining process between September 12 and September 18, 2026.
Missing the joining deadline can have serious consequences for the allotted seat. Therefore, candidates should keep their required documents ready and follow the instructions issued by MCC and the allotted institution.
The verification of candidates who have joined their allotted seats is scheduled for September 19, 2026. For AIQ counselling, verification will be undertaken by MCC, while the respective state counselling authorities will handle verification under state counselling.
The state-level Round 2 counselling process will follow a separate timeline. According to the announced schedule, the state counselling Round 2 process will be conducted from September 7 to September 11, 2026.
Candidates participating in state counselling should regularly check notifications issued by their respective state counselling authorities because registration, choice filling, seat allotment and reporting procedures may vary from one state to another.
The final date for joining an allotted seat remains September 18, 2026 for both AIQ and state counselling, as per the schedule provided.
Candidates who did not receive a seat during Round 1 can participate in the second round, subject to the applicable MCC counselling rules and eligibility conditions.
Candidates who received a seat in Round 1 may also be able to participate in Round 2 if they selected the “Float” option, which indicates their willingness to be considered for an upgrade.
On the other hand, candidates who selected “Freeze” will retain their Round 1 allotment and will not be considered for an upgrade in Round 2.
Therefore, candidates should understand the consequences of their selected option before proceeding with the next stage of counselling.
Candidates who have been allotted a seat in Round 1 but want to try for a better preference in Round 2 can participate through the prescribed upgradation process by choosing the Float option, wherever applicable under the counselling rules.
Under the revised NEET UG Counselling 2026 system, candidates opting for Float do not have to physically visit the Round 1 allotted college solely for document verification. Instead, the documents are verified online by the concerned institute.
This change can make the upgrade process more convenient for candidates who are waiting for a higher preference in Round 2.
Students participating in Round 2 should keep all required admission documents prepared in advance. Depending on the candidate and category, these may include the NEET UG admit card and scorecard, identity proof, Class 10 and Class 12 certificates, category certificate where applicable, domicile-related documents for state counselling and other documents specified by the counselling authority.
