Gunjan was unable to attend classes for three months due to Pneumothorax, so his Mother made notes for him
The hard work of many people lies behind the success stories of students living in Kota. The sacrifice of parents and the guidance of teachers play a crucial role. This time, the mother’s contribution, like a classfellow, has been evident in the success of a student living in Kota who cracked the JEE-Advanced this year.
To help her son succeed, the mother made notes, which the son used to succeed and he will now enter IIT.
The story is about Gunjan Kumar and his mother, Gunja, who are residents of Sitaram-Sajjai, Bihar. Gunjan Kumar, who had been preparing for the JEE at ALLEN for two years in Kota, fell ill just before the exam. Pneumothorax (lung collapse) left him severely ill and he couldn’t attend classes for three months.
During this time, his mother, Gunja, became active. To ensure his studies didn’t suffer, she showed him online videos and made notes for him. Gunja, a homemaker with a B.Ed. degree, stayed with him in Kota and helped her son. Gunja resume studies after many years for helping her son.
Gunjan has weak eyesight, and wears 9.5-point glasses due to over 70% vision loss. He scored a 91.8 percentile in the JEE Main exam. In the JEE Advanced exam, he secured a rank of 50 in the PwD (OBC) category and 120 for the PwD (Common Rank).
Now, he is about to fulfill his dream of becoming an IITian by taking admission in the CS branch at IIT Delhi. His father, Rajnarayan Prasad, is an engineer at the Border Road Organization. His younger brother is also currently living in Kota and preparing for the JEE.

Before coming to Kota, he searched for the best coaching for JEE preparation. He then saw a video of Mridul Agarwal, the 2021 All India topper of JEE Main and Advanced, and a student at ALLEN.
Impressed by Mridul’s success, Gunjan also decided to go to Kota. He insisted his parents to send him to Kota. Seeing their son’s dedication, the family supported him wholeheartedly, and sent him to Kota in 2023, where he was enrolled at ALLEN Career Institute and began shaping his dreams.
Exam in January, Pneumothorax in October
Everything was going well after arriving in Kota, but just before the exam, life posed him biggest challenge. On October 5, 2025, he took a routine test at the institute, and the next day, he began experiencing chest pain.
When he saw a doctor, it was revealed that lifting excessively heavy objects had put pressure on his left lung, causing it to collapse. After the pneumothorax, he was on bed rest for nearly three months. It felt as if everything had stopped and the going would get tougher.

When I fell ill, my mother’s support was very helpful before the exam. With the guidance of my faculty, I was able to succeed. Therefore, students should always think ahead, maintaining a positive spirit.”
This is the real Kota
Naveen Maheshwari, Director of ALLEN Career Institute, said that Kota is a real motivation for students. This city doesn’t just provide success in passing exams, but also instils confidence and teaches to face challenges.
