NTA Releases Comprehensive Guidelines Ahead of NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam on 21 June

With the NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination scheduled for June 21, 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a detailed advisory covering dress code requirements, permissible items, admit card guidelines, biometric verification procedures, and enhanced security protocols.

The advisory aims to ensure a smooth, fair, and secure examination process for lakhs of medical aspirants appearing across the country.

Candidates are strongly advised to read and follow all instructions carefully, as failure to comply with the prescribed guidelines may result in denial of entry to the examination centre.

NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam to Be Held on June 21

The NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination will be conducted on June 21, 2026, at designated centres across India.

The examination has been organized following the cancellation of the original NEET-UG exam held on May 3, 2026, amid allegations of a paper leak. Subsequently, the examination was annulled on May 12, and an investigation into the matter is currently being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In view of the circumstances surrounding the re-examination, NTA has implemented unprecedented security arrangements to maintain transparency and safeguard the integrity of the examination process.

Dress Code Guidelines for NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam

To facilitate smooth frisking and security checks, NTA has advised candidates to wear simple and comfortable clothing on the examination day.

Light clothing is recommended; however, candidates may wear full-sleeve garments or woollen clothes if necessary. Those opting for such attire are advised to report to the examination centre well before the reporting time to allow additional security screening.

Candidates belonging to different faiths can wear religious attire and articles of faith, including turbans, hijabs, kalawas, religious symbols, and similar items.

However, they must arrive early so that examination authorities can complete the required verification and frisking procedures without causing delays.

Permissible Items Allowed Inside the Examination Hall

The NTA has clarified that candidates are permitted to carry transparent water bottles inside the examination hall.

Considering the possibility of monsoon showers in several parts of the country, candidates may also keep their admit cards inside transparent plastic pouches to prevent damage.

Apart from these items and other documents specifically mentioned in the admit card instructions, candidates should avoid carrying unnecessary belongings to the examination centre.

Footwear Instructions for Candidates

Candidates are encouraged to wear slippers or low-heeled footwear on the examination day. These options facilitate quicker security checks and reduce inconvenience during frisking.

Those wearing shoes with high heels or bulky footwear may be subjected to additional verification procedures. Therefore, candidates are advised to choose simple footwear to avoid delays at the entry gate.

Strict Prohibition on Electronic Devices and Metallic Accessories

As part of the enhanced security framework, NTA has strictly prohibited candidates from carrying any electronic gadgets inside the examination hall.

Mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, earphones, calculators, communication devices, and any similar electronic equipment are not allowed under any circumstances. Candidates found carrying such items may face disciplinary action.

Additionally, metallic objects such as large belt buckles, heavy jewellery, ornaments, and metallic accessories are also prohibited. Candidates should avoid wearing such items to ensure a hassle-free entry process.

Mandatory Frisking at All Examination Centres

Every candidate will undergo compulsory frisking before entering the examination premises.

NTA has requested students to report at the examination centre within the stipulated reporting time to complete all security checks comfortably and avoid last-minute stress.

The agency has emphasized that cooperation with security personnel and examination staff is essential for the smooth conduct of the re-examination.

NTA Sends Admit Card Alerts Through SMS, Email and WhatsApp

To ensure that no candidate misses important examination updates, NTA has started sending admit card reminders through SMS, email, and WhatsApp notifications.

Candidates are advised to pay close attention to official communications and verify the authenticity of every message they receive.

According to the agency, official SMS alerts will be sent only through the sender ID “NICPEP,” while official emails will originate from the address no-reply.neet.nta@nic.in.

Students should access their admit cards exclusively through the official NEET website and avoid clicking on suspicious links received via messages or social media platforms.

Beware of Fake Messages and Fraudulent Communications

NTA has issued a strong warning against fraudulent messages claiming to provide admit cards, answer keys, question papers, or examination-related services.

The agency clarified that it never asks candidates to make payments through unofficial channels, share OTPs, disclose personal information, or access admit cards through external links.

Candidates receiving suspicious messages are advised not to click on any links and to immediately report such incidents through official cybercrime reporting mechanisms.

Official WhatsApp Updates Now Available for Candidates

For the first time, NTA is also utilizing WhatsApp as an official information channel to communicate examination-related updates and examination centre details.

Candidates should verify that any WhatsApp communication comes only from a verified account displaying a blue tick and the official name “National Testing Agency.”

Any unverified account, even if it uses NTA’s name or logo, should be considered fraudulent. The agency has clarified that its WhatsApp service operates only as a one-way broadcast channel.

Candidates will never be asked to respond to messages, provide OTPs, submit personal information, or make payments through WhatsApp.

Previously Downloaded Re-Exam Admit Cards Remain Valid

NTA has informed candidates that those who have already downloaded admit cards for the June 21 re-examination do not need to download them again.

However, admit cards issued for the original May 3 examination are no longer valid because many candidates have been allotted different examination centres for the re-test. Students must ensure that they possess the correct admit card issued specifically for the June 21 re-examination.

Biometric Verification Made Mandatory for All Candidates

As part of enhanced examination security, biometric verification has been made compulsory for every candidate appearing in the NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination.

After completing the frisking process, candidates must undergo biometric authentication before being allowed to enter the examination room.

This verification procedure is intended to prevent impersonation and strengthen examination security. Candidates are advised to cooperate fully with examination officials during this process.

Exception Protocol for Biometric Verification Failures

Recognizing that technical issues may occasionally occur, NTA has also introduced an exception protocol for candidates whose biometric verification cannot be completed.

Candidates will still be permitted to appear for the examination if biometric authentication fails due to reasons such as device malfunction, poor biometric data quality, connectivity issues with UIDAI servers, or physical conditions that prevent biometric capture.

In such cases, candidates will be required to submit a written undertaking at the examination centre. The prescribed format will be provided by the Centre Superintendent.

No Biometric Processing During Active Examination Hours

NTA has assured candidates that biometric procedures will not interfere with the actual examination.

Any pending biometric verification will be completed either before the examination begins or after it concludes. Candidates will not be disturbed during the active examination period under any circumstances.

The NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. Candidates eligible for compensatory time under the PwD/PwBD category will be allowed to continue until 6:20 PM as per applicable guidelines.

Non-Compliance May Lead to Strict Action

The NTA has warned that refusal to undergo biometric verification without a valid and documented reason may be treated as a violation of examination regulations.

Such instances may invite action under the provisions of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. Candidates are therefore advised to follow all examination procedures and cooperate with authorities throughout the process.

With the re-examination approaching, candidates should focus on their final revision while ensuring complete compliance with NTA’s dress code, admit card instructions, biometric verification procedures, and security protocols.

Arriving early at the examination centre, carrying the correct admit card, avoiding prohibited items, and remaining vigilant against fraudulent messages can help candidates avoid unnecessary complications on exam day.

As NTA strengthens security measures for the NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination, candidates are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and approach the examination with confidence and preparedness.
