The son of a vegetable vendor, Devendra has now secured free NEET coaching at ALLEN Career Institute after being selected under the Shiksha Sambal Yojana, a social initiative jointly run by ALLEN Career Institute and LN Parmarth Nyas.

The scheme will provide him with complete academic support, including free coaching, accommodation and meals in Kota, allowing him to prepare for the NEET examination without placing any financial burden on his family.

Family Struggled to Keep His Education Alive

Devendra’s father, 42-year-old Pramod Mehra, earns a living by selling vegetables on a handcart and roadside footpath. Despite limited income, he remained committed to his son’s education and borrowed nearly ₹5 lakh to fund Devendra’s studies in a private school until Class 8.

As financial pressure increased, Devendra shifted to a government school for his secondary education, where he completed Class 12 with 72 percent marks. While his academic journey continued, preparing for a competitive medical entrance examination appeared impossible due to the family’s financial condition.

Devendra first learned about the Shiksha Sambal Yojana through his school teachers. Encouraged by them, he appeared for the selection examination conducted under the scheme and successfully secured a place.

He explained that without the Shiksha Sambal Yojana, Devendra would likely have joined him in selling vegetables instead of pursuing higher education. The family is already burdened with significant debt, while another son is undergoing treatment for sickle cell anemia and the youngest daughter is still studying in school.

According to him, the initiative has not only reduced financial stress but also given his son a genuine opportunity to build a better future.

A Humble Home with Limited Means

Devendra shared that his family of five lives in a small kuccha house in their village. They do not own agricultural land, leaving vegetable vending as the family’s primary source of income.

Despite these hardships, his parents consistently encouraged him to continue his studies and chase his dream of becoming a doctor.

Shiksha Sambal Yojana Supports Deserving Government School Students

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Naveen Maheshwari, Director of ALLEN Career Institute and Trustee of LN Parmarth Nyas, said the Shiksha Sambal Yojana was created to ensure that talented students from economically weaker families studying in Hindi-medium government schools receive equal opportunities to compete in national-level entrance examinations.
